Issues for Day At the State Capitol

Issues for Advocates
These are the same six issues found in the Legislators Booklet. The first part is identical to the information in the Legislator's Booklet. At the end of each issue there are specific advocacy measures for advocates to follow. You can pick and choose how much you want to do or how much you want to be involved. For some issues, the advocacy measures may seem overwhelming. They are not intended to be. Even if you do not do all of them, they will help you to learn the government process. So, pick the issues most important to you and the advocacy measures you are comfortable with.

Issues Bullet Points If you are a person who is more comfortable with less information, here are bullet points for each of the above issues. You may want to download these and use them when meeting with your legislators.

The file numbers below to not indicate importance.

Hearing in the Courts

The State Bar of Michigan has created a "Request for Accommodations" form for use by individuals to make sure they receive open access to the judicial system. It can be used by people who have been called for jury duty or it is for people who are involved in the court process as witnesses or as part of civil criminal litigation. The person making the request should be very specific about the type of accommodation needed. This form can be obtained from the Michigan Supreme Court State Administrators office or the Michigan Courts website.  Click "Court Forms".  Enter "MC 70" in the search box.
